08th December 1941, after sunset, the
Japanese Imperial Army
August 1944. The Allied Forces dropped two atomic bombs at Hiroshima and Nagasaki, killing more than 100 000 people. Japan surrendered, putting an end to the Pacific War. Six decades ago, soldiers fought with exceptional bravery to defend Hong Kong, performing their duties with the highest level of professionalism. Today, many of the pill boxes, bunkers, batteries and tunnels, which were once the homes, and for many the final resting places, of these unnamed heroes, are still neatly preserved. Some examples of such venues are the Shing Mun Country Park, Mt. Davis, Devil's Peaks...
Screaming of dying soldiers is now
overwritten by the tranquility of the country park, the once blood filled pill
boxes had turned into the homes of wild lives... but the scars left by the War
can never be erased. Bullets marks can still be seen in the operation post,
Japanese inscription can still be seen in the tunnel, reminding us of the
stupidity and cruelty of wars.
